Visa FAQ

How do I get a visa letter?
Please request the letter at https://supportletters.acm.org/. Make sure all your details are correct (e.g., your name must match your passport) to avoid delays. For questions, or if CHI 2027 is not listed as a venue on the form yet, email acmsupportletters@executivevents.com.

When should I start applying for the visa? How long does it take to get the visa?
Now! There is usually no earliest limit for B visas, so apply as soon as you decide to attend. Visa appointments in some regions are in high demand, so book early. For citizens of some nations, the application might also go through additional checks, which could take months. See the official visitor visa page for how to apply.

Could you contact the consulate/embassy to facilitate the process?
Unfortunately, we have no connections to the consulate/embassy and are unable to do so. The best advice we have is to secure an appointment and apply early!

Can I get a letter before registering?
Generally, we do not provide a visa letter until you have registered for the conference. Exceptions are conference organizers, Student Volunteers, authors, and presenters. You can provide those details in https://supportletters.acm.org/.

Can I get an invitation letter (instead of a visa letter)?
Unfortunately, we currently only issue visa letters. You might consider combining it with your paper’s acceptance email for other purposes (reimbursement, etc.).

How soon will I receive my letter or a reply?
We expect the busiest time to start in December, when it may take up to 10 business days, so we advise you to start the process as soon as possible.

Could you provide the details needed for my visa application?

Conference Details:

ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI 2027), May 10 to 14, 2027, David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15222, USA.

US Contact:

Donna Cappo / ACM SIG Services

Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

1601 Broadway, 10th Floor

New York, NY  10019

Could you include my family member in the visa letter?
If they register for the conference, they can obtain their own visa letter. Otherwise, unfortunately, you will need to inform the consulate/embassy of your family’s travel plans.

I have a valid B1/B2 visa. Can I reuse it directly?
Yes, a valid B1/B2 or B1 visa works for the conference, but a B2 only visa is for tourism and may not be suitable. Currently, travelers on a People’s Republic of China passport with a 10 year B visa must have a valid EVUS enrollment before travel.

Please bring all supporting documents (e.g., your visa letter and registration confirmation), as the final decision on entry is made by US border officers.
