CHI 2027 Workshops: What’s New?

CHI 2027 takes place on May 10-14, 2027, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. The call for workshop proposals is open until Thursday, October 1, 2026, AoE, and as Workshops Chairs, we are also recruiting jurors to help select this year’s workshops, with applications due Monday, September 28, 2026. If you organized or attended a workshop at CHI 2026 in Barcelona, several parts of the format work differently this time: workshops are now open to all conference attendees, every workshop runs as two consecutive sessions, and proposals are limited to 6 pages.
The list below covers them in full. The official requirements are in the Call for Workshops.
What has changed since CHI 2026
- Workshops are now open to all conference attendees. At CHI 2026, attendance to some workshops was limited to only participants accepted to those workshops. For next year, organizers can still review workshop submissions (e.g., position papers) and can give priority to authors of accepted works. The exact procedure is still being defined, but it will likely involve a dedicated timeslot at the start of each workshop for allocating seats to those authors.
- There is a single workshop format: two consecutive sessions of about 75 to 90 minutes each, with a break in between. The short, single-session option offered in 2026 has been dropped.
- Proposals are limited to 6 pages excluding references, down from 8.
- At least two organizers must register by the registration deadline and attend the conference in person, otherwise the workshop will be canceled. While two is the requirement,we expect most of the organizing team of a workshop to be present. In 2026, one attending organizer was enough.
Other aspects remain as they were: Workshops are held in person, each person can be listed on at most two proposals, a workshop with fewer than 10 participants may be canceled, and purely social or networking activities belong in the Meetups track.
Serve on the jury
Jurors review the workshop proposals and recommend which ones fit the conference best, and the Workshop Chairs make the final decisions based on those recommendations. You can apply if most of these apply to you:
- have served on an organizing or program committee for CHI or a similar HCI conference;
- have reviewed papers or helped select talks or workshops for those conferences;
- attend CHI regularly, as a speaker, author, or attendee.
Jury work takes about eight hours between early October and early November 2026. To apply, email workshops@chi2027.acm.org by September 28, 2026, with your name, affiliation, CV, and a statement of about 150 words on why you are interested.
